Welcome To Saxown Longhorns...
We are Carole, Richard and Thomas, Hannah and Eleanor Saxby. We live in Hellifield, a village in North Yorkshire. We own our Saxown Jersey's, Saxown Longhorns and Jolly Jacob's. Our Jerseys have always been our main interest in farming but we began our Longhorn Herd in 2004 and then our Jacob flock in 2007. We have recently bought a Hereford which calved this Spring, as well as last year, and also a Kerry Hill lamb and we hope to increase in both breeds.
We are developing our small Longhorn cattle herd and Jacob sheep flock. We are selling direct to our customers or by courier service, by providing quality home reared beef and lamb.

Hellifield is a large village situated between Settle and Skipton, on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. The traditional pastures of Little Newton provide an ideal farm for our small herd of pedigree Longhorns. The Saxown herd was established in 2003 and our animals have been shown at Newark & Notts County Show and the Great Yorkshire Show.
The Longhorn is Britain's oldest beef breed and until recently has been a rare breed but due to present popularity numbers are on the increase. The Longhorn beef has a taste of it's own, unlike tough and tasteless intensively produced beef.
Our cattle graze free range on rolling hilly pastures with each cow producing one calf in the Spring. The calves are suckled by their mothers and then they will receive a supplementary diet of home-produced forage with cereals, as mother's milk decreases. They are not fed any growth promoters or given anti-biotics as we like them to mature slowly to give them the consistent good flavour.
