History...
Our Longhorn herd started with two Halloughton heifers in 2003 (Heather) and 2004 (Emerald), on our farm in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. The first heifer went to run with a bull of Bruce and Carol Manchester's. When we purchased the second heifer, she was already in calf. They calved around the same time and Heather had a bull, who we called Harry, and Emerald had a heifer called Garnet. These two cows have formed the basis of our herd, giving us great calves every year since, but unfortunately they are no longer with us. Our herd runs with Carole's Hereford cow, Emma, and her Hereford x Longhorn calf from this year.
We also fatten up about three-four steers every year on grass. They are then given concentrates to finish them, and once they are ready, are then sent to be slaughtered. The meat is then sold privately in 10kg boxes.
The first bull we bought was Bollin Edgar in 2006, who we used for four years before being replaced by Piggothill Jacob in 2010.

The Herd...
Our small herd of Longhorn's currently has two cows, Saxown Ellie and Saxown Emily, and one heifer Blackden Kestrel. The cows are kept outside all year, but come inside at winter if the weather is bad. Our cows have both calved heifers this year, which are both great additions to our herd. They are names Evie and Elspeth. They are by the bull, Piggothill Jacob.
But this year, we haven't got another longhorn bull and they have been to a belgium blue so unfortunately we will no longer have longhorn cattle if they keep going to the belgium blue, this also means we're not going to be in the longhorn society anymore
